The Four Fields of Practice
The collection groups its practice by emphasis, with connections across the divisions.
Parts II to V of the collection explore four connected fields: philosophical questions and paradoxes; theories and discoveries; formal experiments; and lived experience, including public affairs. They organize emphasis rather than establish closed categories.
A formal experiment may carry an intimate feeling. A travel poem can join physical perception with memory and cultural history. A relationship introduced in one part can return with a different meaning elsewhere.
Read poem and commentary together, then return to the poem. Commentary explains sources and compositional choices; the words may offer more than those explanations anticipate. Readers can follow this exchange through the collection and their own writing.
